Manoj Bajpayee, you can’t sleep in court!
No sleeping allowed, even if it’s sleeping of another kind altogether. News is that Hansal Mehta’s Aligarh, which has been overwhelmingly applauded on the film festival and preview circuit, has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification, but with a few rather curious cuts.

The censors want the shots of Manoj Bajpayee dozing in court, to be snipped off. Manoj’s character of an elderly professor is shown to be so exhausted at the court proceedings that he nearly falls asleep, a common occurrence surely.

On the positive side, the censors have not objected to any other shots in the film, dealing with a same-gender relationship, adapted from the real-life story of a University professor who became a victim of intolerance on the campus.

It will be a pity if the ‘objectionable’ shots in the court trial are cut since they have been done realistically and aesthetically.

Now it’s up to Hansal to go with the brief but curious cuts, or ask for reconsideration from the censor authorities.

Aligarh is up for nationwide release, come February-end.
